Service Learning at the University of West Alabama

UWA Service Learning

Currently the Service Learning program at UWA is housed in the Division of Educational Outreach and is coordinated by the Director for of the Study of the Black Belt and a working committee.

The Center for the Study of the Black Belt is a division of The University of West Alabama whose mission is to foster greater appreciation and understanding of the Alabama Black Belt and regional culture. The Center encourages scholars and citizens to find solutions to regional challenges and to celebrate its success. The Center will serve as a leading entity to bring these groups together to enact positive change.

What is Service Learning?

Service learning is commonly identified as “experiential learning”.  The University-wide service learning program is one that engages University students with the poverty-related issues in the community at-large.
